It’s no surprise that depression afflicts many care-givers. After all, caregiving can isolate you from society; create feelings of guilt; bring on health problems. If you are feeling caregiver depression, please know you’re not alone. We’re here for you, and we have some suggestions that may help you cope.
Stress Reduction Tips…Let us know if any of them work for you:
- Make a Pact with a Caregiving Friend. Give each other permission to vent to each other. You’re not trying to "fix" anything, you’re just listening to each other. It can be invaluable.
- Hire In-Home Help. Getting help is not a sign of weakness. It's a sign of strength. You'll still be a caregiver. You just won’t be alone in the journey. You will be able to have respite and reduce the weariness that you feel when you are giving care.
